Yacht

Yacht is a public-domain dice game. Five dice, twelve boxes, and the best card wins.

Players

One to four. A solo sailor plays the card against the total they can bank. With two or more, turns pass to the left. The Skipper goes first, then the Mate, the Bosun, and the Lookout.

The dice

Each turn you get three rolls.
1.
Shake all five dice out of the cup.
2.
Hold any of them. Held dice stay. Free dice will roll again. You can change your mind before you reroll.
3.
Reroll the free dice. You may do this twice, so a turn has at most three rolls.
You may stop early and score after the first or second roll. You must score once you have used the third roll, or when every die is held.

The card

Each player has the same twelve boxes. A box can be filled once. You must fill a box every turn, even when the only open box scores zero. A zero is a scratch: that box is used up.

Classic Yacht (the default)

Box
What it scores
Ones through Sixes
The face times how many dice show it. Three fours score 12.
Full House
Three of one face and two of another. Score the sum of all five dice, or 0.
Four of a Kind
At least four dice the same. Score the sum of those four dice, or 0. Five sixes score 24.
Little Straight
1-2-3-4-5 scores 30. Anything else scores 0.
Big Straight
2-3-4-5-6 scores 30. Anything else scores 0.
Choice
The sum of all five dice. Always available.
Yacht
Five of a kind scores 50. Anything else scores 0.

The modern card

The lobby can switch the ruleset to the modern card before the game starts. It is the same twelve boxes with four differences:
•
Upper bonus. Ones through Sixes are the upper section. If they total 63 or more once all six are filled, add 35. Sixty-three is three of every face.
•
Yacht bonus. The first five of a kind still scores 50 in the Yacht box. Each later five of a kind, on a later turn, adds 100.
•
Joker. After the Yacht box is 50, a later five of a kind must fill the matching upper box if that box is still open (five sixes must take Sixes). Once that upper box is already filled, the five of a kind may be scored as a Full House (25), Four of a Kind (the sum of all five), Small Straight (30), or Large Straight (40).
•
Straights and fixed scores. Small Straight is any four in a row (30). Large Straight is 1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6 (40). Full House is a flat 25. Four of a Kind scores all five dice.
A Yacht box that was scratched as 0 does not unlock the bonus or the joker.

Ending

The game ends when every box on every card is filled. The highest total wins. An equal total is a shared win — there is no tie-break roll.
A solo game reports the final total. That number is the score to beat next time.

How to play on the table

Press Roll to shake the cup. Press a free die and it moves into the Held tray; press it there to throw it back. Press Reroll to roll whatever is still free.
Each open box on your card shows what the current dice would score there. Press a box to fill it. A box that would score 0 asks you to press again, so a scratch is never an accident. Gold numbers are scores already banked.
