Trash (Garbage)
Overview
Trash is a family card game of ranked slots. Each player has a layout of face-down cards labeled Ace through Ten. Draw from the stock, place matching ranks face up, and chain replacements from displaced cards. Complete your layout to shrink it by one slot next round. The first player to complete a one-card (Ace-only) layout wins the match.
Objective
Be the first to turn all of your layout slots face up, then keep winning rounds as your layout shrinks from 10 cards down to 1. Winning the round when you have only the Ace slot left wins the match.
Setup
1.
2–4 players share two shuffled standard 52-card decks (104 cards) so the stock does not run out quickly.
2.
Each player is dealt 10 cards face down into slots Ace through Ten (two rows of five).
3.
Remaining cards form the stock. There is no seed discard at the start of a round.
4.
The first player alternates between games: Player 1 opens the first game, Player 2 the next, and so on round the table.
Layout
•
Slots are labeled by rank: Ace (1), 2, 3, …, Ten (10).
•
Only rank matters — suit is ignored.
•
Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) never fill a slot.
Turn Structure
On your turn:
1.
Draw the top card from the stock.
2.
If the stock is empty, reshuffle the discard pile into a new stock, then draw.
3.
If the drawn rank matches a slot that is still face down in your current layout, place it face up in that slot. Take the displaced face-down card as your new held card and continue the chain.
4.
If the held card is a Jack, Queen, or King, or its slot is already face up, discard it face up. Your turn ends.
5.
Keep placing while each new held card fits an open (face-down) slot.
You must place when a legal slot is available; discard only when the held card cannot be placed.
Winning a Round
The first player whose active layout slots are all face up wins the round.
Match Progression
•
The round winner drops one slot for the next deal (10 → 9 → … → 1).
•
Other players keep their current slot counts until they win a round.
•
Cards are collected, reshuffled, and redealt: each player receives as many face-down cards as their current layout size (Ace through that rank).
•
The round winner starts the next round.
•
The first player to win a round with a one-slot (Ace) layout wins the match.
Special Rules
•
No discard-pile draw in this version — draw from the stock only.
•
No wild Jacks/Queens/Kings — face cards are always discarded.
•
Simultaneous round completion cannot happen under turn order; only the player who just placed can complete on their turn.
