Spit

Overview

Spit (also known as Speed) is a 2-player real-time card race. Both players play at the same time — there are no turns. Race to empty your hand and stock by playing cards onto two shared center piles. Cards must be one rank higher or lower than the top of the pile you play on. Ace wraps around King and 2.

Setup

•
Players: 2
•
Deck: A standard 52-card deck (no jokers)
•
Shuffle and deal 26 cards to each player
•
Each player draws 5 cards face-up as their hand
•
Each player flips 1 card from their remaining cards onto a shared center pile (two piles total)
•
The rest of each player's cards form a face-down stock

How to Play

This is real-time — both players act whenever they can. There is no waiting for your turn.

Playing a card

If a card in your hand is one rank higher or lower than the top card of either center pile, you may play it onto that pile.
•
Ace connects with both King and 2
•
Suit does not matter — only rank
•
Either player may play onto either pile
•
After you play, draw from your stock to refill your hand up to 5 cards (if stock remains)

Spit (flip)

When neither player has a legal play, either player may call Spit. Both players then flip the top card of their stock onto their matching center pile (stock 1 → center 1, stock 2 → center 2). Play resumes immediately.
If only one stock still has cards, only that stock flips.

Winning

•
The first player to empty both their hand and their stock wins immediately.
•
If neither player can play and both stocks are empty, the player with fewer cards left in hand wins. Equal hand sizes is a draw.

Digital notes

Concurrent plays on the same pile are serialized: one play succeeds and the other is rejected so you can try again instantly. Legal cards and piles are highlighted in the UI. The Spit button appears only when nobody has a legal play and at least one stock still has cards.
