Klondike Solitaire

Overview

Klondike Solitaire is a single-player card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The goal is to move all cards to the four foundation piles, building each from Ace to King by suit.

Card Rank

K (high), Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A (low).

Setup

The game begins with four types of piles:
•
Tableau (7 piles): Starting from left to right, pile 1 has 1 card, pile 2 has 2 cards, and so on up to pile 7 with 7 cards. Only the top card of each pile is face up; all others are face down.
•
Foundations (4 piles): One for each suit (hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades). These start empty.
•
Stock pile: The remaining 24 cards, placed face down.
•
Waste pile: Starts empty. Cards are flipped here from the stock.

How to Play

Moving Cards in the Tableau

•
Build tableau piles in descending order with alternating colors (red on black, black on red).
•
You may move a single face-up card or a sequence of properly ordered face-up cards from one tableau pile to another.
•
When a face-down card is exposed, it is automatically flipped face up.

Building Foundations

•
Move Aces to empty foundation piles.
•
Build each foundation in ascending order (A, 2, 3, ... K) of the same suit.

Using the Stock

•
Click the stock pile to flip the top card to the waste pile.
•
The top card of the waste pile can be played to the tableau or a foundation.
•
When the stock is empty, click it to recycle the waste pile back into the stock.

Empty Tableau Spaces

•
Only a King (or a sequence starting with a King) may be placed in an empty tableau space.

Winning

The game is won when all 52 cards have been moved to the four foundation piles. Each foundation should contain 13 cards from Ace to King of a single suit.

Losing

The stock can be recycled as many times as you like, so a deal only runs out of moves once the stock and the waste are both empty. If that happens and no card on the tableau can move to another pile or a foundation, the game ends and the deal is lost.
