Soldier Battler
A tactical card battle game where two armies clash on a 3x3 battlefield using soldiers with different weapons and a rock-paper-scissors advantage system.
Overview
Each player commands an army of soldiers, drawing from a deck and deploying them to the battlefield. Soldiers can move and attack, with weapon types determining combat advantage. The goal is to eliminate all enemy soldiers.
Players
•
2 players: Red Army (Player 1) vs Blue Army (Player 2)
•
Players take turns in alternating order
Components
Soldier Types
Decks
Each player starts with an identical deck of 8 cards:
Battlefield
A 3x3 grid where soldiers are deployed and fight:
•
Row 0 (bottom): Red Army deployment zone
•
Row 1 (middle): Neutral territory
•
Row 2 (top): Blue Army deployment zone
Setup
1.
Each player shuffles their deck
2.
Each player draws 3 cards from their deck into their hand
3.
Red Army takes the first turn
Turn Structure
Each turn consists of three phases:
1. Draw Phase
•
Draw 1 card from your deck into your hand
•
If your deck is empty, skip this phase
2. Play Phase
•
You may play 1 soldier card from your hand onto any empty cell in your deployment row
•
Newly played soldiers can act immediately this turn
3. Actions Phase
•
Each of your soldiers on the battlefield may perform ONE action:
•
Move: Move to an adjacent empty cell (up, down, left, or right - no diagonals)
•
Attack: Attack an enemy (see Combat below)
•
Each soldier can only act once per turn
•
You may pass your turn at any time, ending all remaining actions
Combat
Melee Attacks (Swordsman, Axeman, Spearman)
•
Can only attack the enemy directly across from them (same column, opposite row)
•
Cannot attack if no enemy is directly across
Ranged Attacks (Crossbowman)
•
Can attack any enemy soldier on the battlefield
Damage Calculation
Base damage: 20
Advantage system (deals 2x damage = 40):
Crossbows: Always deal and receive normal damage (20), regardless of opponent's weapon type
When a Soldier is Hit
•
Subtract damage from their HP
•
If HP reaches 0 or below, the soldier is destroyed and removed from the battlefield
Winning
A player wins when:
•
All enemy soldiers have been destroyed (none on battlefield)
•
AND the enemy has no cards in their hand
•
AND the enemy has no cards in their deck
If a player has no way to field more soldiers, they lose!
Strategy Tips
1.
Use the advantage system: Position your soldiers to exploit weapon weaknesses
2.
Protect your crossbowmen: With only 40 HP, they're vulnerable but can attack from anywhere
3.
Control the middle row: Soldiers in row 1 can reach both enemy rows with one move
4.
Manage your hand: Don't play all your cards too quickly - you may need reserves
5.
Watch your opponent's deck: Track which soldiers they've played to predict what's coming
