Agram

Agram is a simple four-player trick-taking game. There is no trump and no bidding — you only need to avoid winning the last trick.

Objective

Win as few final tricks as you can. Each time you take trick 13, you receive 1 penalty. When any player reaches 10 penalties, the match ends and the player with the lowest penalty total wins.

Players & Deck

•
4 players
•
Standard 52-card deck (no jokers)
•
Ace high; no trump

Setup

1.
Shuffle and deal all 52 cards — 13 to each player.
2.
The dealer rotates each hand. The first dealer also rotates between games: Player 1 deals the first game, Player 2 the next, and so on.
3.
The player to the left of the dealer leads the first trick.

Play

•
Play proceeds clockwise.
•
You must follow suit if able.
•
If you cannot follow, you may play any other suit.
•
The highest card of the led suit wins the trick and leads the next.
•
There are no restrictions on the first lead.

Scoring

After 13 tricks:
Result
Penalty
Winner of the last trick
1
Winner of tricks 1–12
0
Penalties accumulate across hands.

Winning

When any player's cumulative penalties reach or exceed 10, the match ends. The player with the lowest total wins. Tied lowest totals share the win.

Strategy Tip

Tricks 1–12 are free — use them to shed dangerous high cards. On trick 12 and 13, duck whenever you can: taking the last trick is the only way to score a penalty.
