Accumulation
Overview
Accumulation is a fast, "hot potato" style elimination dice game. Players share
one running total and take turns adding their roll to it. Push the total past 40
and you bust out. It shares a spiritual lineage with card games like 99, where
everyone piles onto a shared pool and tries desperately not to be the one who
tips it over the edge.
Objective
Survive. Be the last player who has not busted.
Equipment
•
Two shared six-sided dice
•
One shared running total, starting at 0
Setup
•
2–6 players (best with 3–5).
•
In the tabletop game every player rolls one die and the highest roll goes
first; here Player 1 leads off. Play then proceeds clockwise (to the left).
•
The shared running total starts at 0.
On Your Turn
Before you roll, make a choice:
1.
Choose your dice — declare whether you will roll one die or two
dice.
3.
Add the result to the shared running total.
4.
Pass to the player on your left.
Busting & New Rounds
•
If your roll pushes the running total to 41 or higher, you bust and are
out of the game for good.
•
The running total then resets to 0.
•
The remaining players begin a fresh round of accumulation, starting with the
player to the left of the one who just busted.
•
This continues until only one player remains — the winner.
The Safe Zones
Knowing when one die beats two is the whole game:
Even a max roll of 12 only reaches 40 — no risk.
Two dice can now bust; one die (max 6) cannot.
Every roll can bust — pick the smaller gamble.
Odds in the Risk Zone
A roll survives when it leaves the total at 40 or lower.
The Golden 40
If you are handed a total of 39 and roll a 1, the total becomes exactly
40 — and you pass it along. Because every player must roll at least one die
(minimum 1), whoever receives a total of 40 is guaranteed to bust (40 + 1 =
41). Landing the total on exactly 40 for your neighbour is the ultimate
offensive move in Accumulation.
Winning
The last player who has not busted wins the game.
